Preferences of prescription of antibiotics in odontology bacterial infections by dentists

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the use of antibiotics in odontology is characterized by an empiric prescription based on clinical and bacterial epidemiology.
Objective: to determine what antibiotic is preferred by a group of dentists from Mayabeque Province for the treatment of bacterial odontology infections.
Methods: a descriptive, transversal study was performed sending a questionnaire by E-Mail to 123 professionals who work in this province, it was formed by three questions elaborated in form of a fan related to; professional formation (Basic general dentist), specialist in Integral General Odontology or specialist in Secondary Health Care , elected antibiotic in bacterial odontology infections in patients who are tolerant to the administration of penicillin, and in those who are allergic to them, in the first semester of 2015 using the percentage as a summary measure.
Results: from the 114 received answers the 92,77% of the dentists elected Betalactamic as the chosen antibiotic and the Cephalosporin with a 47,36 % was the antibiotic to use in an allergic patient to penicillin.
Conclusions: amoxicillin and cephalexin were the preferred antibiotics in bacterial odontology infections.
