ABSTRACT
Launois-Bensaude syndrome or known as Madelung disease, is a disorder with few reports in the literature, characterized by accumulations of fat in head, neck and upper chest; generating neck aesthetic deformity and immobility. The following article presents the case of a patient with Launois-Bensaude syndrome, aiming to make a review of current literature and describe different strategies for addressing the airway in the surgical management of these patients and to estimate the potential complications after surgical excision of lipomatosis. The anesthesiologist facing patients with Madelung’s disease should be aware of two major problems: the difficult airway and the high risk of significant intraoperative bleeding. A suitable choice of technical control of the airway is necessary, including aspects of intubation, extubation likewise a plan to minimize the complications that may arise.
