Introduction: some psychological alterations as the depression seem to be more common in overweight persons. The behavior related to the singularity of excess weight in adult women is unknown.
Objective: to determine the depression level in adult women with excess of weight.
Methods: A descriptive and transverse study was done on 39 patients that fulfilled the criteria of inclusion, and were attended at the
Endocrinology service at "Dr. Salvador Allende" Hospital from June to August of the 2014. The state depression risk inventory (IDERE) was applied. The maximum, middle and minimal of the variables were determined as well as the absolute and relative frequencies. Pearson's correlation coefficient was determined to assess the relation among variables.
Results: the average: age 38 years, body index mass 36.1 Kg/m2, circumference waist 103.5 cm, level of depression 41 points, level of depression risk 36 points the positive relation of waist circumference and body index mass with level of depression (0.3824 and 0.2629,
respectively) and depression- risk (0.2816 and 0.2642, respectively).
Conclusions: increments of waist circumference (mainly) and body mass are related to higher level of middle depression as state and risk. The patients classified at level middle depression, as state and risk.
