ABSTRACT
Dermoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic technique which allows
the visualisation of certain morphologic characteristics not seen
thru the naked eye examination. It offers a horizontal view of
the skin, allowing the perception and evaluation of a number
of vascular structures with determined morphologic characteristics
and patterns. This has a great diagnostic value in the
two-step analysis of lesions (melanocytic/nonmelanocytic and
benign/malignant). Polarized dermatoscopes are more efficient
in the evaluation of vascular structures and patterns.
In the evaluation of vascular structures of a lesion, three
essentials characteristics must be taken into account: morphology,
array/distribution and additional dermoscopic clues which
may aid in the diagnosis.
