ABSTRACT
Introduction.
TJP1 gene encodes protein ZO-1, that is required for the recruitment of occludins and claudins in tight junctions involved in cell
polarization. It has different variations that have been studied in several populations. There are no studies regarding this gene in Mexico. It is
necessary to continue investigation because its polymorphisms may be used in association studies for thyroid cancer and other neoplasms.
Considering its expression level, an increase in ZO-1 has been demonstrated in thyroid medullar cancer. The objective of this study is to estimate
the frequency of genotypes and alleles of polymorphism rs 2291166 (p.D1134A) in gene
TJP1 among Mexican population with Zapotec
ancestry.
Material and Methods.
159 individuals with Zapotec ancestry were included. The polymorphism was identified by PCR-PASA and electrophoresis PAGE 7%..
Results.
The most frequent allele in both populations was ancestral allele (T), as in other populations. The polymorphism is in Hardy-Weinberg
equilibrium among the population analyzed (p ›0.05).
Discussion.
SNP rs2291166 is a polymorphic marker in Mexican population and it may be used in association studies regarding thyroid carcinogenesis.
