ABSTRACT
Introduction. Cardiovascular surgery reoperation is due to complications that endanger life; this study describes the general characteristics of patients and explores possible related factors.Material y Methods. Case series of reoperation patients of cardiovascular surgery were review; the general characteristics were described; qualitative variables were present as absolute and relative frequencies; quantitative with means and standard deviations or medians and interquartile range depending on their distribution; associations between general characteristics and complications with Pearson Chi square and U Mann- Whitney test, for qualitative and quantitative (respectively) for a confidence level of 95% were explored.
Results. 33 cases of reoperation were reviewed; the median age was 70 years; males contributed 78.8% of cases, 51.5% of the procedures performed was coronary artery bypass graft; median time of the pump was 95 minutes and 61 minutes of aortic clamping; The most common complication was cardiac tamponade (69.7%); the distribution of time of pump in tamponade was above in cardiac tamponade compared to patients with abnormal bleeding (p = 0.014).
Discussion. Patients underwent reoperation the most after coronary artery bypass graft and valve replacement, the most common complication was cardiac tamponade, being related to the time of bomb; additional studies are needed with control group to define risk factors for reoperation.
