In the celebration of Dr. Ernesto Guevara´s 87th birthday, a Cuban-Argentinean revolutionary physician, genuine son of our Latin America, this article was aimed at approaching more to his social medical thought, an interesting facet of the life of this hero of Santa Clara battle and of the fighter for materialization of his African dream and his Latin American ideals. His way of thinking, sensitivity and example have gone beyond his heroic action and courage to face death. This article pays homage to a young medical physician who early developed his research qualities when recognizing the importance of the social value of research and the fact that new knowledge should be especially aimed at transforming realities rather than just describing them. When asked about how the social determinants could be changed to support health promotion and disease prevention, his answer was making revolution to become a revolutionary physician and thus contributing to the change of the realities. That is the man we remember today and his example will last forever!REFERENCES
