ABSTRACT
Introduction: Larval and adult species mosquito’s identification in each municipality level of Cuba is part of the Control Program of
Aedes aegypti that develops in the country.
Objective: Identify mosquito species and their distribution in Havana province in Cuba.
Methods: The work was developed in the 15 municipalities of Havana province during january 2000 to august 2013. Records of the larval mosquito samples of
Entomology laboratory of each municipality were used. Larval collections were made in artificial containers and natural breeding sites.
Results: Species mosquito richness of the province was 48 of these five species are distributed in all municipalities. Boyeros municipality was of greater species richness, while those of lower species richness corresponded to Plaza de la Revolución, Habana Vieja and Centro Habana. Ten species were collected in artificial containers, while 38 were collected in permanent or temporary natural breeding sites.
Ae. aegypti and
Cx. quinquefasciatus were the most species
collected.
Conclusions: Data about current knowledge of the distribution of mosquito species
and their breeding sites in Havana provide valuable information for decision-making
at the time of programming the control measure in the presence of any epidemic
where these vectors will be involved.
