ABSTRACT
Introduction: injuries extrahepatic bile ducts have a very low incidence and are a group of extremely rare diseases due to the anatomical location of these organs. They may be iatrogenic in 95% of cases, while only 5% are attributable to trauma affecting the bile ducts in the following ratio: 3-5% the gallbladder, and bile ducts in a 0,5% of cases. Objective: to report a case of gallbladder traumatic injury by stab.
Case report: a male patient, who is black and 17 years old, attended to present stab wound to the abdomen. On physical examination, there is 4 cm wound in the epigastric region, two centimeters to the right of the midline; by that wound the omentum appears exposed. Laparotomy is performed finding traumatic injury gallbladder.
Discussion: the diagnosis of traumatic lesions of the gallbladder and bile ducts is generally difficult to ask before giving effect to laparotomy, since the surgeon assumes the one hand, liver injury and, secondly, the injuries associated to other visceral cavity that do not allow to establish the diagnosis in most cases.
Conclusions: cholecystectomy was indicated –as a not complex proceeding– because the patient had no other intra-abdominal organ injuries, and his evolution was satisfactory. Although in some cases complications may arise, it´s not the most common.
