ABSTRACT
Background: Blood transfusions are commonly performed in the operating room due to blood loss during surgery. However, sometimes they can be unnecessary and may increase the morbidity and mortality of the patient.
Methods: Hemoglobin levels measured in arterial blood gases are compared to those shown in the Masimo Radical 7 in a pediatric patient with idiopathic scoliosis submitted to posterior instrumentation and bone graft placement. Hemoglobin levels in arterial blood gases measured 5 times throughout the procedure were compared with those of the Masimo Radical 7.
Results: A high concordance between both methods was found.
Conclusion: The use of Masimo Radical 7 is useful in assessing hemoglobin levels intraoperatively.
