ABSTRACT
Background: Carlos J. Finlay Barrés was a Cuban scientist who made incursions into many fields of medicine. The discovery of the transmitting agent of yellow fever was one his contributions to science.
Objective: to pay homage to the life and work of Carlos J. Finlay Barrés and present it in the solemn session of the Provincial Health Scientific Board of Camagüey.
Method: a review of digital historical documents obtained through Infomed and of articles published in the data bases of Pubmed, Medline and Scielo was made.
Conclusions: a great man of science, who served the mankind with the eradication of yellow fever, is honored. The medical staff that is fighting Ebola virus disease is also honored.
