ABSTRACT
Background: Chronic kidney disease is a serious health problem, for which kidney transplant has become the treatment of choice. Potential donors are evaluated by excretory urography and angiography.
Objective: Evaluate the usefulness of uro-angiography in live kidney donors at Hospital General de México Dr. Eduardo Liceaga and propose standardized reporting.
Material and methods: A transverse and descriptive observational study. Ninety-five uro-angiograms from potential live kidney donors were examined between January 2012 and December 2014. The prevalence of anatomical variants in the kidneys was analyzed, as well as incidental findings.
Results: Of the potential donors, 53 (55.7%) were men and 42 (44.3%) women. The prevalence of anatomical variants of arterial vascularization was determined in 41 (43%) of the potential donors, by number and pattern of division. A Bosniak category 3 renal cyst was identified, as well as multiple incidental and y benign conditions.
Conclusions: Uro-angiography is the imaging method of choice in preoperative evaluation of kidney donors; standardized reporting of renal and vascular anatomy, urinary excretory system, and incidental findings from other organs facilitates radiological and clinical evaluations.
