Nursing Interventions aimed at Self-Care of patients with Heart Failure

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the Heart failure is a major public health problem with high incidence and mortality rates and with a complex clinical syndrome involving specific actions of self-care.Objective: identifying the nursing interventions related to the self-care of patients with heart failure.
Methods: integrative review of literature. Available articles, in full, were selected from the MEDLINE, CINAHL and LILACS databases, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, whose methodology yielded strong levels of evidence. The final sample consisted of 10 articles.
Results: indicated four intervention categories: use of telephone contact and other technologies; outpatient interventions in groups or individual, performed by nurses or multidisciplinary teams; home visits and hospital intervention follow-ups after discharge.
Conclusions: interventions utilizing technology are more frequent and present positive results regarding self-care. However, there is no evidence regarding clinical outcomes and long-term results. Interventions initiated in the hospital are strongly recommended, regardless of the type of follow up.
