ABSTRACT
An experimental study was conducted at the Provincial Teaching Hospital of Oncology «Maria Curie» of Camaguey, Cuba, from January to December 2012, with the aim of demonstrating the effectiveness of moxibustion in the variation of haematological parameters in immunosuppression by chemotherapy in cancer patients. The study group consisted of 100 patients who attended consultation chemotherapy. A sample of 60, divided into 2 groups of 30 patients each, the A (study) was treated with moxibustion treatment with chemotherapy and B (control) received only chemotherapy. As the more relevant result observed in the study group, hemoglobin is stable in 96.67% throughout treatment, also leukocytes within the normal range in 100% of patients, only on the seventh day these changed in 6.67% between 3-5.4 x 10
9 L and platelets vary within seven days at 3.33% between 91-149 x 10
9 L, while in the control group, hemoglobin levels were affected in 33.33% from 72 hours of treatment and only 60% will keep them stable, as leukocytes and platelets values decrease from 72 hours to 63.33 and 20% of patients, reaching pathologic levels on the seventh day. 100% of patients in the control group had adverse reactions to chemotherapy, whereas only two (6.67%) in the study group, being moxibustion effective in 93.33%.
