ABSTRACT
In recent years there has been growth in the knowledge of platelet function and its role in maintaining the integrity of the vascular system and its response in connection with the processes of hemostasis and thrombosis. Among laboratory tests that help assess platelet function we have the aggregometry test, which is used to evaluate the function of platelets, it measures the ability of various agonists to induce
in vitro activation and interaction of these agonists with other platelets. Initially it was only used to diagnose abnormalities of platelet aggregation; currently is an essential tool in the aid of the diagnosis and therapeutic support in platelet disorders and the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy; there are other methodologies for the study of platelets as electron microscopy, flow cytometry and technological developments such as the PFA-100 equipment. In this review we present some useful aspects of the test and the interpretation of results.
