Useful guide to encourage children with primary language delay through literature

ABSTRACT
Stimulation in children aged from 3 to 5 years with primary language delay, demands the use of literature. According to this research, the use of literature as a therapeutic resource is insufficient. Therefore, the guidance of speech therapists is relevant in this regard.In addition, we do not count on a wide selection of stories and poems that let us expand the linguistic possibilities of the target group of our study and correspond to the prevailing cultural context as well. This is why our research is directed to design a practical guide that could lead speech therapists in their work and contribute to the optimization of language stimulation through literary resources. We worked with a group of subjects referred by 30 speech therapists from Havana, and 30 parents who attended the consultation at Borras-Marfán pediatric hospital, whose children have primary language delay. Both groups were applied questionnaires to prove the need for the development of the guide, which was validated by consulting specialists. It is expected to prove a tool for speech therapists and other educators who provide their assistance to preschool children.
