ABSTRACT

Sarcoidosis is considered a rare disease in Costa Rica. Pulmonary manifestations are the most common form of presentation. For make the diagnose is necesary a characteristic clinical picture, with the histological demonstration of noncaseating granulomas, ruling out other disease that could explain the findings. The treatment is not yet standardized, generally, will be chosen depending on the severity and extent of the disease, while some patients will require no therapy, there is a significant group which will merit. Corticosteroids represent the best initial treatment, used more every day are steroid sparing agents, in refractory cases biological therapy could be indicated. A case of a patient with symptomatic pulmonary sarcoidosis and a discussion of the main features of this entity and its therapeutic is presented.
