ABSTRACT
Introduction: the aging of the population in Cuba is like in many developed countries and it is among those with a higher rate in the group of developing countries that hierarchizes the attention to the most vulnerable population groups, for which it counts on a National Care Program for the Elderly.Objective: to increase the quality and effectiveness of community care for the elderly patient.
Method: a retrospective study was performed in the medical office number 16 in the urban zone of Guise, the universe concerned to the elderly belonging to the afore mentioned medical office and the sample was given by 131 elderly patients.
Results: it was assessed that the age group of 71-80 had the greatest amount of elderly patients, hypertension, followed by diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases were the most common ones, the female sex was the most affected.
Conclusions: The most affected age group was about 71-80 years, the most important diseases were hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease, the female sex was the most affected in these diseases.
