ABSTRACT

Rings and vascular “slings” are anomalies or vascular anatomical variations that compress to a greater or lesser degree, the trachea and the esophagus (or both) and causing varying levels of stridor and dysphagia (or both). The complex embryological development of the aortic arch, the supra-aortic arteries, and the pulmonary artery branches and the presence of permeable duct arteriosus (right or left) make them multiple abnormalities that the bad vascular mal formations can cause at this level. Double aortic arch and the aortic arch to the right with left arteriosus duct form complete rings while “slings” produced by aberrant arteries do not completely close a vascular “ring”.
