ABSTRACT
A descriptive cross-sectional, observational study was made with 38 patients who were performing hemodialysis at “Arnaldo Milian Castro” University Provincial Hospital of Villa Clara Province, in the period between January 2014 and January 2015 those who performed bone densitometry. Chronic kidney disease predominated in patients included between 45 and 54 years old, white skin and male sex and hypertension was the disease most commonly associated. In bone densitometry values predominated moderate and severe osteopenia; patients who took steroid had more osteopenia and osteoporosis as well as those who practiced little physical activity; the values of calcium, phosphorus and albumin were not related to the results of bone densitometry; it was shown that with increasing time of hemodialysis the value of bone densitometry diminished and there is 80.4% of dependence on other variables not studied such as diet, the calcium value before and after hemodialysis and even proper genetics of the patient.
