Thrombosis of cavernous sinus and of left internal carotid artery secondary to acute rhinosinusitis in an immunocompromised pediatric patient

ABSTRACT
Infections of the upper airways are among the most common causes of consultation, reaching complicated with rhinosinusitis between 1-10%. The rhinosinusitis presents complications between 0-6% of cases, being fatal as much as 5% of patients. The classification of Chandler of complications of rhinosinusitis includes cavernous sinus thrombosis as orbital and intracranial complication. The cavernous sinus thrombosis has a mortality of 20-50% and a morbidity of 22% currently, despite treatment with antibiotics.
