ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pancreaticoduodenectomy is considered the surgical procedure of choice for periampullar cancer, although they have tried several surgical techniques different to pancreatojejunal anastomosis in order to minimize mortality, there is still disputed which of them has a clear advantage.
Objective: To determine the factors associated with morbidity, mortality and relapse.
Material and methods: Retrospective study included patients with periampullary tumor in whom a pancreatoduodenectomy (PDD) was performed on the HRAEPY between January 2011 and June 2014.
Results: 44 cases were performed indicating neoplasia biliopancreatic, 20 were women and 24 men. The age of patients ranged from 41-72 years with an average of 58 ± 8. Mortality was 13.6% 6 patients.
Conclusions: The only factor associated with mortality was staying at Intensive Care Unit and relapse factor was associated with vascular infiltration, however no conclusive data exist, possibly because it is a small sample and a short follow-up period.
