ABSTRACT
Introduction: in Cuba, cancer represents the second cause of death and lung cancer ranks first; Ciego de Avila province does not differ from the above and it does not know the prognostic factors related to lower mortality than a year from the date of diagnosis. Objective: to evaluate the association and behavior of mortality prognosis factors in less than 12 months. an retrospective longitudinal observational study of cases and controls was carried out from April 2011 to December 2013. The sample consisted of 90 patients who died within 12 months and one control per cases was selected with the diagnosis of the entity and survival over 1 year. Test of independence based on Chi-square distribution was used to determine the presence of statistical association between categorical variables and Odd ratio for quantification of risk was calculated. Results: males and patients between 60 to 69 years prevailed. The diagnosis of non-small cell and smoking, were found not associated with early mortality in patients with cancer. Conclusions: associations with mortality were found in less than 12 months in patients who had clinical stage III or IV, lung cancer family medical history, tumor size classification (T3, T4) or regional lymph distributed according classification (N2, N3).REFERENCES
