ABSTRACT
Background: Lipoblastomas are non-frequent benign fatty tumors; less than 200 cases of these tumors have been reported in the literature. They appear almost exclusively in children under three years of age, and have only been reported in 10 adult patients.
Clinical case: 29-year-old male with five months of non-painful volume increase in the left thigh, in its distal third medial zone. Upon physical examination, a mass with a rubbery consistency of approximately 20 x 18 x 10 cm was found, fixed relatively on deep layers; the tomographic view showed a lesion with fat density corresponding between (-50-100) Hounsfield units. With a presumptive diagnosis of liposarcoma, an incisional biopsy was made, but histologically, a lipoblastoma was documented; in a second time, a wide resection of the lesion was performed.
Conclusions: Lipoblastomas are rare in children and their presentation in adults is exceptional. Their treatment is total resection to prevent recurrence, and the prognosis is excellent.
