ABSTRACT
From the date of its foundation, October 1, 1993, to September 30, 2000, the Department of Thoracic Surgery admitted 988 patients with bronchogenic carcinoma; 616 had complete stadification, 42.04% were in stage III B. During the same period we performed 81 curative pulmonary resections, 4 of them in stage III B patients. One patient received a palliative venoatrial by-pass for superior cava vein syndrome, 8 laser and 7 brachytherapy treatments for central tumors and 2 subxyphoid drainages for malignant pericardial effusions were also performed. Current data are reviewed and some new concepts regarding management of stage RI B non-small-cell lung carcinoma with emphasis on surgery.
