Induced abortion in the adolescence

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the induced abortion in any of its ways compromises the reproductive health of the adolescents in a psychological, biological and social ways.
Objective: to evaluate the psychobiological and sociodemographic characteristics of adolescents who undergo abortions at "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital” in Bayamo, Granma.
Method: it was performed a prospective, longitudinal and descriptive study in the period of January to December of 2014. The universe included 1360 adolescents that came voluntarily to the abortion service of this center.
Results: the age group of 15 to 17 years with 55% prevailed, in the group of 11 to 14 years, 19% of them already had their first sexual experiences. 79% of the adolescents belonged to single women, 3% belonged to married women. 41% of the patients obtained information through the media, 16% of the interviewed patients lived with their parents.
Conclusions: the greater representation was stated by the precocious beginning of the sexual relations, the poor use of contraceptive methods, the promiscuity, the mono-parental homes, and the pressure of the family in the decision making in regards to the abortion.
