ABSTRACT
Introduction: Coledochal cyst represents a rare disease of the biliary ducts. The aim of this study is to describe
the surgical experience in a tertiary care medical center.
Material and methods: Ten year retrospective,
observational, transversal and descriptive study was performed. Demographic and surgical variables were
studied. Descriptive statistics analysis was used.
Results: 42 patients were studied, their ages range from
one month to 14 years old. The most common clinical findings were abdominal pain and jaundice. Ultrasound
was the most common study performed. Hepatoyeyunoanastomosis was performed in 95.2 % of the
patients, and 4.7% of the patients were under hepatoduodenoanastomosis, both without intraoperative complications.
The type of cyst most frequently reported was type I. Postoperative complications were cholangitis,
prolonged ileus, subhepatic abscess, intestinal occlusion and stenosis of the anastomosis.
Discussion:
Technological advances have allowed an earlier diagnosis of this disease. It allows for the establishment of
early treatment. The surgery recommended continues to be
hepatoyeyunoanastomosis with few complications. We recommend to also perform liver biopsy because of
the frequent finding of hepatic fibrosis.
