ABSTRACT
Medical importance of mycoplasmas is related with various illnesses such as joint, respiratory and urogenital tract diseases. It has even been considered as cofactor of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Viability of mycoplasma was studied in various culture media with different antibiotics that do not interfere with its metabolism and facilitate its isolation. Mycoplasma fermentans in presence of vancomycin, gentamycin, bacitracin, ceftriaxone, netilmycin and amykacin shows a slow metabolism, in comparison with other mycoplasmas. Mycoplasma penetrans, Mycoplasma pirum, Mycoplasma hominis and Mycoplasma pneumoniae presented growth at 24 hours in presence of these antibiotics.
