ABSTRACT
Introduction.
Statistics show an increase in social media use. These internet sites have developed during the last few years, with positive and negative
consequences on common socialization patterns and relationships, especially among teenagers. Literature reports that younger people are more
vulnerable to internet's potential negative effects. Teenagers are susceptible to become addicted due to their research stimulus and novelty desire.
The objective of this study was to know the relation between social network addiction and self-esteem problems in a 15 to 19 year old population
from Family Medicine Unit (FMU) 171.
Material and methods.

or absence of internet addiction. In order to evaluate self-esteem we used the Rosenberg test. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS 15,
looking for an association through Odds Ratio (OR), and considering statistical significant a value of p ‹0.05.
Results.
Internet addiction was present in 66.7% and absent in 33.3%. Normal self-esteem was reported in 37.3% and 62.7% showed self-esteem
problems, OR 1.283, confidence interval 95% (0.551-2.987) p=0.909.
