ABSTRACT
The case of a boy, 3 years and 11 months of age, with adeno-tonsilar hypertrophy, habitual snoring, witnessed apneas and disrupted sleep is presented. The polysomnogram recording was showed severe obstructive sleep apnea with an apnea-hypopnea index of 63.9 events per hour of sleep. In addition, severe hypoxemia and hypoventilation with mean values of 70.8% SaO
2 and 53 mmHg PCO
2et were observed. Furthermore, pulmonary hypertension and signs suggestive of cor pulmonale were found. Treatment with adeno-tonsillectomy normalized obstructive sleep apnea. A description of the clinical case, the polysomnogram and a theme review are presented.
