ABSTRACT
Background: psoriasis is a chronic disease that affects approximately
2% of world’s population a relationship between
this and cardiovascular risk has been established.
However, the possibility of psoriasis as an independent cardiovascular
risk factor has been propound.
Methodology and material: retrospective analytic studies
of cases and controls. Patients older than 30 years who
were diagnosed with psoriasis, between October 1st 2011 and
September 30th 2012. Inferential statistics Student’s T test was
used for quantitative variables and squared Chi for qualitative
variables. Risk factors were analyzed through odds ratio in the
bivariate analysis. With p<0.05 as significance.
Results: 120 patients were included, 40 cases and 80 controls.
Patients were arranged by age and gender. For cases σ = 48 ± 18
while for controls σ = 46 ± 16, with a significance of p 0.522.
Regarding the cardiovascular incidents (cases) 28 males and
12 females (ami) and controls (56 males, 24 females) or 1.0 and
ci = 0.43–2.28.
Conclusions: psoriasis is not a direct risk factor to develop
cardiovascular events.
