ABSTRACT
Lymphocystis was found in Parambassis baculis from an aquarium in Mexico City. Gross pathology demonstrated 0.1-0.4 cm in diameter masses on dorsal fins and opercules. No internal lesions were found in other tissues. Histopathology and ultraestructure of lesions revealed hypertrophied fibroblasts containing many 200-300 nm diameter lymphocystis virus particles. Additional study is needed to determine the prevalence of lymphocystis in commercially and recreationally fish in Mexico, as well as its importance in fish health and economy in this country, where no reports were found of this pathology in fish before.
