ABSTRACT
Objective. To identify the prevalence of complications in diabetic patients with surgically treated ankle fracture luxation. To identify the type of complication and frequency. Methodology. Design: transversal, descriptive, retrospective. Site: Pelvic limb module. Traumatology Hospital “Victorio de la Fuente Narváez”. IMSS. Participants: Population 1,298 patiens with ankle fracture luxation. Sample: 160 fractured patients, 116 included. Sampling Non probabilistic, series of cases. Interventions: identification of cases in service registry. Clinic file and radiography revisions. Measurements: Prevalence simple frequency, RM, and proportions. Results. Of 160 fractured diabetics, 116 were operated (72.5%). Global prevalence (P
G) 12.32%, exposition prevalence (P
E) 10.3%, risk factor prevalence (P
FR) 86.5%. Complications 38 (32.75%), necrosis 37%, infection 31%, Charcot 13%, dehiscence 8%, arthrosis 8%, amputation 3%. Females 76%. Averages 62 years of age, preoperatory glucose 170 mg, diabetes evolution time 12 year, ischemia time 75 minutes. As a risk factor surgery was greatly associated with complications (RM 4). Conclusions. Results show that according to the studied pupulation and sample size the complications proportion is minor to that reported in literature.
