ABSTRACT
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the induction of ovarian activity in anestric goats through different degrees of contact with females induced to estrus with the use of hormones. Thirty three anestric goats were allocated to one of four groups: Group I (n = 8), goats that were exposed to the presence of nine females with induced estrus in the same pen; Group II (n = 9), goats that were kept in a pen next to Group I divided by a solid clear fence; Group III (n = 8), goats that were kept in a pen next to Group I, opposite to Group II, divided by a solid dark fence; and Group IV (isolated Group, n = 8), goats that were isolated from the other groups. In the induced estrus Group, 66.6% of the females ovulated in response to the hormonal treatment, whereas Group I had 25% of induction (P › 0.05). Groups II, III and IV did not show ovarian activity. Results suggest that direct full contact is needed for induction of ovulation in anestric goats through the female effect.
