ABSTRACT

Introduction: several studies evidence the prevalence of drugs in university students, prevailing alcohol, tobacco and tranquilizers. It is manifested that thousands of young people die each year for this cause and millions of them get hurt for the rest of their lives.
Objective: to determine the legal drugs abuse in stomatology students at ¨Celia Sánchez Manduley¨ Medical Sciences Faculty in Manzanillo.
Method: it was performed a descriptive- transverse study in stomatology students of first to fifth year in the Medical Sciences Faculty ¨Celia Sánchez Manduley¨ in Manzanillo, Granma province during March, 2014. The sample was formed by 120 students, 60 males and 60 females.
Results: within the main results, the legal drugs more consumed were the coffee and alcohol. The students of the fourth year of the career were the greater consumers. The main motivation was for relaxing and to have fun.
Conclusions: it is necessary to accomplish the preventive and rehabilitation actions in those students whose consumption is harmful, not only for their health but also for the society.
