ABSTRACT
Background: Negative pressure wound therapy is an indispensable tool for the current treatment of complex wounds. It improves blood perfusion to the wound, increases granulation tissue, reduces the amount of bacteria and increases local blood flow.
Clinical cases: We report four cases with complex wounds (two in the abdomen, two in the lower extremities) that were treated successfully with this method. We also present an extensive and updated review regarding negative pressure wound therapy.
Conclusions: The authors have had satisfactory results using this type of treatment as a bridge between the original wound and the definitive treatment of complex wounds, especially in the lower extremity.
