ABSTRACT
Mucoceles of the appendix are rare and predominate in women. The most common clinical finding is a palpable mass in the right lower quadrant. Most patients are asymptomatic. Mucoceles are defined as a cystic dilatation of the appendiceal lumen caused by the accumulation of mucin. There are four subtypes: simple mucocele or retention cyst, focal or diffuse mucosal hyperplasia, mucinous cystadenoma and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.
