ABSTRACT
Uterine leiomyomas are the most prevalent tumors in women; they are very common in patients in reproductive age and their presentation increases with age. Most of them are asymptomatic. Only 20 to 50% of women with myomas experience symptoms. Their relationship with infertility is about 5 to 10%. In 50% of the cases, these women became pregnant after myomectomy. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) proposed that these tumors are directly responsible for infertility in 2 to 3% of patients. We made a retrospective, descriptive and lineal study where we reviewed the medical records of 41 people with infertility and fibroids who were treated with myomectomy in the period from 2005 to 2011. We obtained different percentages of presentation of fibroids and the incidence of variables such as the number of previous pregnancies, symptomatology, type of infertility and achievement of pregnancy. A careful and comprehensive patient assessment will help to determine her best treatment option. The risks and benefits of these procedures should be carefully evaluated to avoid overtreatment
