ABSTRACT
Six hundred and twenty five (625) gastric cytologies by the curettage technique were observed by endoscopy in adult patients with chronic gastritis and/or gastric ulcer, with the purpose of detecting the presence of Helicobacter pylori. In a patient with gastric ulcer the urease test was positive and the cytology for Helicobacter pylori resulted negative, but other spiral bacterias found, which we knew only from literature, were measured and photographed. Gastrospirillum hominis was informed. The patient was treated with Q-ulcer, metronidazole, tetracicline and metoclopramide. Two months after the treatment ended, endoscopy was again performed and no ulcer was found but we were informed of a chronic gastritis slightly exacerbated without biliar reflux. The urease was negative and the bacterias described in the previous sample had disappeared.
