ABSTRACT
There is a discursive register rarely studied in specialized medical language. It deals with the jargon
or slang used by these professionals in their daily communication. These diverse ways of speaking
are denominated indistinctly in Spanish language, in such a way that, linguists, grammarians and
philologists have not yet established the limits of each term. Medical slang is only reserved to
doctors and health staff like all common slang among professionals, and in this sense, it shares with
other slangs the same characteristics of a specialized language. We consider slang as a rich
communicative phenomenon due to its contribution to our language that is why it should be studied
much more.
