ABSTRACT
Background: Wound healing is the way to repair
tissues after an injury or lost of tissue. This
process take place with some events that we
know as the
Repair Cascade. This process can produce
keloid and hypertrophic scars, due to a dermal fibroproliferative
process that occurs following any trauma
or surgery. The treatments of these conditions are
not effective.
Objetive: We tried to demonstrate that colchicine
could play a preventive role, decreasing the fibroblasts
replication and the collagen synthesis.
Material and methods: We performed a double blind
clinic assay in fifty patients prone to develop keloid or
hypertrophyc scars. They received colchicine 1 mg/d/90
days or placebo, starting seven days after surgery.
Results: We found that the patients treated with
colchicine were practically free of keloids, as compared
with the placebo group in whom most of them
develop keloid or hypertrophic scars.
Conclusions: Colchicine has a preventive effect in
the formation of keloid and hypertrophic scars in patients
prone to develop them.
