ABSTRACT
Introduction: uveitis is the main form of eye inflammation and can be associated with different etiologies. It constitutes a cause of visual deterioration and blindness.
Objective: to determine the clinical-epidemiological behavior of uveitis in Pinar del Río.
Material and method: a prospective, applied and descriptive research was carried out in patients attending to the uveitis office at Abel Santamaría Cuadrado University Hospital, Pinar del Río province during for April-September 2014. The target group consisted of the totality of patients attending to this office (58) with the diagnosis of uveitis, coinciding with the sample. Statistical review tables were created to carry out the analysis and to process the data obtained. The statistical process was conducted through descriptive-statistic techniques, using Epi-Info system and the results were made known in tables and figures using the percentage method.
Results: patients from 31 to 50 years old predominated, with a mild predominance of male sex, white skin and rural population. Anterior and acute form of uveitis was the most frequent, with a resolution of the cases in less than 3 months. Non-granulomatous, unilateral and idiopathic forms prevailed. The main complications associated with this inflammatory process were: ocular hypertension and posterior synechiae.
Conclusions: assessing clinical manifestations effectively, along with the clinical complications associated with uveitis, will allow a correct diagnosis and treatment of this peculiar eye disease.
