ABSTRACT
Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
is the decrease in the intestinal
lumen at the level of the
pylorus due to hypertrophy or
hyperplasia of the muscular
layer. This portion becomes
abnormally thickened and
manifests clinically as gastric
outlet obstruction. The classic
clinical presentation of these
patients is postprandial,
nonbilious, progressive, profuse
vomiting that might even be
projectile. It is the most common
cause of abdominal surgery
in patients younger than two
months of age. Surgery is the
treatment of choice.
