Considerations on the Model of Comprehensive Health Care in Ecuador

ABSTRACT
Introduction: in Ecuador, following the social changes brought about by the Citizen Revolution, changes in the health sector have been made where the Model for Comprehensive Health, Family, Community and Intercultural stands out.Objective: To analyze the conceptual foundations of this model as a key to improving population health strategy.
Methods: theoretical methods were used to conduct the literature review and documents which were prepared by Ecuador Ministry of Public Health, also articles published on the Internet were reviewed.
Development: transformations in the health sector with the Citizen Revolution were addressed, highlighting the implementation of a new model of care with goals, objectives and well-defined principles, and four components that make feasible the process and development.
Conclusions: This new model focuses on Renewed Primary Health Care prioritizing not only on individual care but family and community, with focus on health promotion actions and disease prevention, promoting equity in health services and respect for multiculturalism.
