ABSTRACT
Chronobiology is the science that measures and describes biological phenomena and their interactions utilizing statistical methodology in order to determine and quantify cyclic and rhythmic components. Chronobiomedicine is the clinical application of Chronobiology, where the essence is detailed study of the interaction of several parameters in order to understand the vital cycle of the human being better; improving in consequence the reliability and applicability of laboratory data plus the understanding of physiopathological process. This paper is a review article with the purpose of collecting, resuming and communicating the results of eight previous publications that our group has generated in the last four years on over two thousand patient samples per sex and per decade, in order to establish the behavior of over twenty analytes approached as biological aging markers including stature, weight, Hematocrit, VCM, Glucose, Cholesterol LDL-c, HDL-c, Tryglicerides, Uric Acid, and TSH on both sexes. On females FSH, LH, Estradiol, Progesterone and Prolactin were added while Testosterone, DHEA and PSA were included on males. All the data were transformed into percentiles considering PC-50 as the central trend measure that is representative of the behavior of the healthy subgroup according to the IFCC recommendations. We conclude that Chronobiology represents a new approach that makes traditional normal values obsolete. LH & FSH/E2 ratio are the best aging markers on females (r = 0.95 / r = 0.92) while Testosterone / DHEA ratio and PSA happened to be the best aging markers on males. (r = 0.94 / r = 0.91). It is anticipated that in the near future it will be feasible to calculate biological age on a fast, reliable and economical basis utilizing routinary laboratory data that will be automatically processed on Laboratory Information SystemsREFERENCES
