ABSTRACT
The varus deformity of the knee is a common problem associate to an early arthrosis of this joint as a result of the high-pressure loading in the medial compartment of the joint. The common treatment for this entity is an osteotomy with a closed wedge technique. Good results, are temporarily obtained. Another option for this deformity is the open wedge osteotomy with hemicallotaxis that offers advantages, such as less hospital housing, less aggression to bone and soft tissues and a high versatility to choose the best point of valgus correction. The purpose of this research is to present our results with an open wedge osteotomy by hemicallotaxis in 32 patients. Complete healing of the bone was obtained in all the patients with a remarkable decrease of pain. The complications we have are inherent to an every external fixation system. All of them were completely resolved.
