Tratamiento radical de quiste hidatídico

ABSTRACT

Introduction. Hydatid disease of the liver is caused by Echinococcus granulosus, it has been considered endemic in many countries, but practically absent in México. Case report: The patient is a 20 year-old female from Estado de México, with family history of no importance for her actual disease. She was admitted to the hospital with a 3 month abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant and epigastric region. An asymmetrical right upper quadrant enlargement was detected on physical examination. Ultrasonography and computerized tomography revealed a giant hydatid cyst in the right hepatic lobe, measuring 10 cm in diameter. Open pericystectomy was performed, the patient was discharged 3 days after without complications. Conclusion. The surgical management with open surgery remains the most accessible and widely practiced method of treatment in hiatidic cyst.
