ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hypertension is a multifactorial syndrome that has achieved considerable importance in recent years due to persistent elevated blood pressures produce dire consequences.
Objective: To characterize the hypertensive patients of Josué País García polyclinic in the
period between January and December 2013.
Materials and Methods: An observational descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted
in the community polyclinic Josué País García. The study population consisted of 320 patients older than 15 years.
Results: 62.5% of patients were females. Most patients were between 65 and 69 years,
representing 12.5% of cases. 48.75% reported drinking alcohol 3 times a week.
Conclusions: A family history of hypertension, alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking
were some of the most common characteristics of hypertensive patients at polyclinic "Josué
País García".
