ABSTRACT
Introduction: Management of urolithiasis in children is posible by less invasive techniques, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and
safety of Holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy.
Materials and Methods: Retrospective, transversal, descriptive and observational study from March 2013 to March 2014, 13 patients 10(76.9%)
males and 3(23.1%) females with 16 stones, their mean age was 9 years (range 3-15 years), stone size range was 6-25mm.The patients were managed by
retrograde endoscopic approach using small caliber endoscopes and the Holmium:YAG laser lithotriptor with 0.6-1.5J of energy and 5-10Hz.
Results: Out of 16 stones, 15 (93%) were completely fragmented with a single endoscopic procedure, only 1(7.6%) patient with renal stone need a
second intervention. No major complications were encountered during or after the procedures.
Discussion: Our rate free of stones was equal to the international series, so the holmium laser lithotripsy may be cosidered an efficient and safe
therapy for treatment of urolithiasis in children
