ABSTRACT
The microorganisms which are routinely searched in genital cultures are: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas, Candida and Gardnerella vaginalis. Mycoplasma and Chlamydia trachomatis are investigated only on physician request. The purpose of this study was to find the way to increase the positivity in genital studies by checking up the results of 2 895 adult patients during 12 months to whom were performed genital culture, Mycoplasma culture and Chlamydia trachomatis direct antigen assay. The results were 22.8% positivity in genital cultures, 34.7% in Mycoplasma cultures and 29.7% in Chlamydia assay. Of all the patients, 219 had the three studies simultaneously done, obtaining an increase of 62.5% positivity, contrary to the supposed case where just one of the tests were performed.REFERENCES
